Suzuki DT 115 Low RPMs at WOT

Just got my boat back from a service center. I had the water warning light coming on with buzzer and rev limiter. The technician told me I had a bad water sensor and he replaced it. Now I have no light and no alarm after a couple of seconds but the boat still won't go past about 3500 rpms. It starts immediately and seems to idle fine. It is not cutting in or out and it seems to be running solidly. I myself have never put gas in the boat but the guy I bought it from said he had just changed the old gas out. The "new" gas is now at least a month old. Can gas go bad or take on water that fast? Also, my oil level indicator is reading low (even though the oil tank is full). I'm sure the float is probably just stuck. Could this be the problem? The rev limiter light is not on. No alarms are going off. Can whatever switch the rev limiter controls get stuck? Did the tech not hook something back up? Thanks for any help.

What year do you have? I can look up any special control unit limitations and conditions.

I doubt it is the fuel. I don't think it could be the hub in the prop slipping because you would feel it on take off.

Mine is an '89. What does the hub slipping feel like?

Depending on how hard you hit the trottle, the hub slipping would feel like the engine is reving. Actually I have it wrong. A slipping hub would give you higher RPM's but the forward speed would be lower. Sorry to confuse.

The low oil light is a problem. Does the buzzer sound for a few seconds when you start the engine?

Yes, the buzzer sounds for a few moments but stops once water starts pumping through the system. The lowest oil level light is on which is green. Not the red oil flow or REALLY low oil lights. When I got the boat there was not much oil in the tank and I think the float on the oil level sensor stuck in that position.

I've edited my original post to include some more details. To summarize - I recently got the boat back from a service center. I had the water warning light and buzzer coming on with the rev limiter. The service tech who called me said that I had a bad water sensor. He replaced it and the alarm is gone but it still won't go past about 3000 rpm. Occasionally it bounces up to 3500.

I would get the low oil float switch fixed, cause that is your problem right there .... have you also press the red buttin on the side of the motor (low oil warning reset button) .......

I will try that but can it really be that simple? There is no alarm and neither of the oil warning lights is going off - the oil level indicator(green light) is simply on the lowest setting. Thanks for the ideas. I'll let you know if it works out.
