Assuming you left off the last digit, it's a 1986.

Re: Suzuki DT 140 and year

I have a 1989 dt140. Seems like an ok motor. This is my 1st outboard so I don't have anything to compare it to. Mine is on a 21' Chris Craft and it still pushes it pretty good even though the boat should at least have 200hp(my opinion). I had the carbs rebuilt but that is just general maintenance on an older motor. The main complaint that I have is with the water flow sensor/float. There's this little float that is attached to the upper block. It's purpose is to make sure enough water is getting in your motor, which is a good thing, but it has gone bad on me twice in one year! Parts seem a little high priced too. Other than that, seems like a well built motor.

I had one, it was a fine outboard, noisy though.<br />Watch out for the lower unit though, these have a tendency to crack from the carrier to the housing from corrosion, not too big of a deal though, as long as you dont let the crack get too big, it can be repaired. One more thing most people dont know about these, peak power is 5750rpm, so running at 5500 all day is what they designed for, good luck and happy boating.
