I have a DT55 serial number 05501501189, what year that is I have no idea.I have been told this motor has had problems, dropping off Revs after running for a little while, also the over heat sensor also was sounding, although it was thought that the motor was not over-heating. I have seen several threads on this forum that indicate similar problems with these motors.the common reply seems to be clean the carbys, replace water pump and replace the fuel pump diaphram, but I havn.t seen a post that says by doing this the problems were solved, any comments would be greatly appreciated as I have an option to buy or to not buy this motor very cheap,
Regards,
Gavin

you have to be sure if its getting hot or not that will help to solve the problem. It could be the t stat sticking impella no good. probably sothing simple

welcome to iboats .... it is a 1985 model .... buying something cheap is buying something really expensive at the end .....

Re: Suzuki DT 55

I will grant you that cheap is not totally for the best, and that is the reason why I am trying to establish whether or not the symptoms sound cronic or not,the engine does look like it just rolled off the line from the factory,I think the common denominator here is "the engine drops off revs in transit". I would like to know what single,or multiple reasons does this happen,

well it doesn't sound fatal .... just do a compression check, if all reading are the same, all is fine ..... it could take a little time figuring out the cause of the problem though .... as there are alot of things that can cause your symptoms .....

Re: Suzuki DT 55

heres a thought:
check the combo heat/flow sensor mounted on the face of the head. if you're not over heating (you have taken the temp of the water when the OB is running for awhile and it is normal) the sensor could be the culprit. the sensor has a float arm so to speak that is operated by the water flow through the water passage to move the arm to signal there is water flow to the warning system/light. If the sensor is bad/defective and you do have waterfow and normal water temperature the warning system recieves a false indication from the defective sensor that may cause/initiate "other" things to happen...engine throttling down etc. "I had this happen to my 87 115 after I bought it in 1987"..replaced the sensor and wha la...ran fine
just a thought.

Re: Suzuki DT 55

Thanks for all the comments,I will be methodically working through all the possible causes for this problem, starting this weekend with compression test, check the fuel pump, water pump, and thanks hopalong all the sensors, here's hoping
