Suzuki DT 85 / 1986- 1987 I bought this to fix it up retired wanted to do a little fishing. rewired tested engine and it fired up .Yea! but now I cannot get any spark, and some of the fuses in the center console get power and some do not. tested the fuses and there good. Replaced the fuse box. I am wondering if any one has any ideas on what I should do or test. what you think might be wrong? Already did restoration work to the floor and put new carpet in it the 1987 SeaLion center console boat. Retired and just wanted a little fixer -up to do a little fishing. Sure wish I could get this done!

:welcome: aboard Ron2. Nice to have you join us here at iboat...

Seems you have two problems. One being the engine spark and the other being the console power. Have you removed and really cleaned the battery connections? I mean clean them back to shiny metal. Do the same with the engine ground at the engine as well. So many folks have electrical power issues and check the positive (red wire) connections, but for some reason just over look the negative or grounds.

As for the engine spark issues, have you checked the kill switch circuitry? If it is flipped, you can crank until the battery dies and it will never start. So make sure that isn't your problem. If that tests good, it is time to start into the ignition circuits. I tried looking up your engine and I can't find any DT85 in the 1986-87 year models. Are you sure it is those years?

As for console power, you need to check to see if you have both good ground and positive voltages at the console. And if so , then see where it drops out at and repair that connection(s). If you don't have power at the console, time to trace the wires back to the battery. JMHO!

GM 280: Thanks for the tips I am going to double check, Yes it is a 1986-1987 DT 85 Finding some of the info on it was strange. What I have looked at is listed as DT 75 / DT 85/ 1986 / 1987 So I did look at the DT 75 book in some of the sights like Browns Pointe and a few others it said DT 75 BUT THE COVER LISTED BOTH. THIS IS THE SERIAL # 8501 615464 Any thing you can find out is much appreciated. I moved to Ridgeland SC. From Ma and CT line all my friends and relatives are back home and it's too far for them to come down and check it out with me. Thanks again

It is not the Kill Switch, I was hoping it would be something simple. When I first cranked it over I had spark now I don't and I didn't change the wires. I bought new spark plus hoping that was it. No Luck. Any ideas and all tips are welcome:welcome: and thanks for the welcome aboard!

As for the engine, you need to have a moderator move your post to the Suzuki forum. That's where "engine-specific" electrical is covered best. As for the console power, that is separate from the engine power so you need to do some more checking. Besides the large battery cables, there should be a separate pair of smaller wires that run up to the fuse panel at the console. Those two wires are part of the power system for the boat. The positive wire should feed all of the fuses in the fuse panel. So when you say some fuses have power and some don't, it highly unlikely that's the case. If one fuse has power on the INPUT side of the fuse, ALL of them should -- especially if you installed a new fuse panel. The OUTPUT or load side of each fuse should also have power if there is a fuse in that position and if the fuse is actually good. So the next question is -- what is not working at the console.
