Just got the 1988 motor. It runs well but I want to do all the preventative maintenance needed. The motor still have the original water pump.
The original owner replaced the voltage regulator only. Evident due to all the melted plastic by the new voltage regulator witnessing a major overheating of the voltage regulator at one time.
Hopefully it wont happen again.
2 questions: 1.) what can cause voltage regulator to cook? Is it not protected with a fuse?
2.) What maintenance steps do I have to keep up with in order to prevent expensive repairs, filters, adjustments, pumps etc.?
Thanks! I would like to know while I am waiting on the service manual.
