Hi

I?m thinking of buying a set of Boyesen for my Suzuki DT140 outboard engine.
I have heard though that I need to change jets to prevent it from coughing and blowing out the fragile Boyesen, as it runs slightly lean with these reeds compared to the original. Is it enough to adjust on the idle air needle on my engine? Anyone with the same engine who have tried these reeds?

Sincerly,

Re: Suzuki DT140 -86 Boyesen reeds

If anyone is considering Boyesen heres my first experience with them and a Suzuki DT140.
Ok so I changed to Boyesen and it was a fairly easy switch. First, if you are considering there is no need to change pilot jets. I got the advise from Boyesen to turn the idle-air screw in 1/4 to 1/2 turns from factory setting. Mine are now 1/2 turn out from fully seated. It runs a little rough on idle so I probably need to turn them out 1/4 more.
My problem initially was a rough idle to 1/4 of throttle, after that runs perfect.
This was not a complete fix. Idle is better, bear in mind I have not fine tuned the air screws yet. It "feels" more responsive/snappy when accelerating and it is quieter than before on high speeds.
