Suzuki Dt25 Rpm's?

i have a dt25 and was wondering how to tell if I have a prop problem or a warning problem. motor starts up runs fine but I can't get over 2400RPM'S.
I know the problem is not carbs because i have rebuilt the carbs and before the rebuilt she wouldn't even get on a plane. now she will get on a plane but will not go above 2400RPM'S. help me save a trip the mech. shop please. I don't mind paying but they are so backed up it would take weeks before i get it back.

One question - have you had it above 2400 before? If not then I would take a good look a being overpropped. What size are you running now? What year is the engine?

Only hitting 2400 that thing is either way way overproped or running on 1 cyl.

It is a 1996 with a 10 1/4 x 14. No, Have not had it above 2400. 1st time out was lame. 2nd time out after rebild carbs was much better. 3rd time out was with new tach and GPS for a speedo. 2400RPM's @ 28MPH wot. the motor only has 40hrs on it plus some minor run time by his son after he passed in 98.

2400RPM's @ 28MPH ?!?! I think the problem is with your tach . I have 30MPH @ 5000 RPM with my DT40 13 pitch prop.

something is not right either tach or speedo there is no way you could do 28 at 2400 rpm

sounds like i need to bring the hand held tach home to check mine out. it is brand new just out the box. thanks for your comments. i'll keep posting results. anyone have an idea what speed she should run? 16ft carolina skif (fiberglass flat bottom) with a dt25c?

I see no reason why you can't get about 30mph out of her if your settings are perfect and very little weight in the boat ..... I get 47mph out of my 30hp suzuki, but that is because it has been modified to the max ....

Thanks for the info everyone. After some investigating I found out that the suzuki dealer sold me the wrong tach. They sold me one for a 4 stroke. I'm going to get the right tach today. I still have a question, I changed the plugs and put fresh oil in her.now when she is running on the hose she smokes. not real bad but the smoke will burn your eyes. do you thing the new plugs are burning off some old crap in the cylinders? (the old plugs where wet)

a lot of times when you run off hose they smoke because of cold water engine not warming enough i like to use a barrel. when you put in water it should go away.
