Suzuki DT40 peehole question.

Anyone with an older DT Suzuki who can answer this? I have just bought a 40hp from 1984 - 85 and I'm doing some repairs on it.

Should there be a strong steam of water coming from small "peehole" on the side of the engine casing?

On mine it just trickles out even though I have just replaced the impeller pump. I get water/exhaust coming from the rectangular discharge hole at the back. The manual states "While warming up visually check that cooling water is spraying out of the tell-tale discharge hole. The spray indicates that the cooling system is work properly". There is a photo of the square hole but no mention of the small round peehole at all.

The engine is not overheating although I have not given it a good workout yet.

Thanks for anything you can tell me on this.

Cheers

Well if you just replaced the impellar .... there must be some dirt or something stuck in the pee-hole, stick a little thin wire in the pee hole while the engine is running and wiggle it around in there until it goes strong as it should ... these things happen ... water should come out the discharge hole as well ......

Pushed a thin wire brush up the hole as far as I could. Big strong stream of water coming form the pilot hole now. Thanks!d:)

If there is no water or little water coming out the tell-tale, a good way to check if the motor is pumping water is to check the exhaust. If that has a spray of water coming out then something is blocking the water from coming out the tell-tale. Just my 2 cents.
