i have a suzuki dt40 that i have just changed the impellor, pump housing, wear plate and gasket. when i connect the flush system there seems to be alot of water coming out of the tell tale hole however after running the engine at idle for approx 30 mins the water turns to a fine spray and the engine runs quite hot.

is this normal?????

Is the "flush system" you refer to a hose connection to the side or back of the engine? If so, I don't think you're supposed to run the engine. If it's on muffs, then you have a problem and the motor is getting ready to over heat.

Never run the motor on the flush connection. There will be no water being pumped up where it should be. Use muffs with plenty of tap pressure, then start the motor.

put a strip of duct tape over the third water pickup above the prop. you could be losing water there. the DT 40 doesn't have a flush connector.
