Suzuki DT55 starting/trim failure

Hi all,

I have a 1989 DT55 that suddenly developed a problem. I went to start it Friday morning and nothing happened when I turned the key. The power trim/tilt also did not work. I looked at the fuses under the cover and the battery fuse was blown so I replaced that. Now, when I try and start or use PTT there is a clicking sound, much like when your car battery is dead and you try to start your vehicle.

I have verified that the battery is good and fully charged. I am a little stumped since this problem seems to involve both the starting and PTT systems and cannot find anything in my manual that connects the two systems. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ok, I found it...turned out to be a short in the battery cable. What was strange was that my gauge still lit up, and I had 12.65 volts at the starter relay, but the wire could not handle any load.

Classic case of corrosion, boncrshr. Allows very small current, prevents high current.

Very common and causes many batteries, starters and solenoids to be replaced when they ain't broke.

check both cable and connection,when one is weak it aslo cause other cablke to "work" harder. corrosion was causing loss of amperage, not voltage.both starter and trim motors require alot more amperage that anything else you have on the boat. you didn't say but did everything else work?
