I have an older (probably 1985, based on the serial number) DT55, 55 hp, 2 stroke that I had the telescoping steering cable seize up on me. There’s 3 grease nipples on the tilt tube assembly but none seem to be filling the steering mechanism tube. I pumped all three with grease and have it oozing all around the tilt tube but nothing inside.Should one of them be or is this something I should be taking apart and greasing on a regular basis? Also, should there be an O ring that sits inside the tube to keep the grease wet and clean on the inside of the tube, or should the rubber grommet on the outside of the motor be functioning that way and possibly is shot?

I've heard of folks chucking a shotgun cleaning brush in a drill to clean/polish rust and old grease from out of there....
