I was told by a friend, it is probably the rectifier.<br /><br />Is there more to check?<br /><br />What and How?

yep<br /> check the stator. failure is rare but can occur.<br />check the resistance between the red and yelow stator wires. also check the 35 amp fuse in the white wire just before the connection with the red/white wire at the start solinoid 1990 and nwer if the fuse is blown it wont power up the keyswitch or gauges.89 and down if the fuse blows it only takes out the chargng system.<br /> between the red and yellow stator leads should be .2-.6 ohms and infinite between either lead and ground. perform all tests with leads dissconnected.<br /> next time give a year model. they do change things on occasion.
