Hi, I have a 83-84 model DT8 which I recently obtained, motor generally runs well but at high speed it now seems to die off and the boat won;t plane.

After much experimentation and fiddling with the various controls I have discovered that if I disconnect the fuel line into the motor that it runs well and very fast for a short time (until the carby fuel runs out, no doubt),

Additionally I have since discovered that I can run the motor fast by manipulating the fuel line (squeezing it on and off thereby cutting the fuel supply temporarily. If I let the fuel run freely too long the engine starts to slow again and if I cut it too long it runs dry, through trial and error I can get it running ok. However this situation is no good for the long term and I don;t know what the problem is. It is as though too much fuel is being drawn into the engine/carby. Is there an adjustment I can make? any help will be much appreciated.

By the way I have also changed the spark plugs and like I say at low to medium speed the motor seems to run perfectly.

Pat R
