Hi all,
My DT8C started making a new noise about 2 hours running ago.
At idle, it makes an occasional "clattering" sound - seems to be in time with when it moves in the mount i.e. when not running perfectly smooth.
As I throttle up to 1/2, it goes away. Past that it returns as a constant "clattering". Whith the cover off , it seems to come from inside the engine i.e. not the starter.
Can this be con rod bearings? If it is, why is it quiet up until 1/2 throttle?
Someone suggested carbon buildup and/or timing - but neither of those should cause the noise at idle.
I gently worked the flywheel back and forth and there seems to be some slop - a bit of clinking as I rock it slightly - but - I tried this on an Evinrude 6 and it seems to be similar.
Any ideas? Compression is good and equal - motor starts easily and develops full power.
I just don't want it to throw a rod or blow up when I least expect it.
Thanks,
Chris
