I have a 1985, 75 hp, oil injected Suzuki outboard. The motor is in good condition, but I am concerned about the age of the injection system. The motor does not have an injection equipment failure alarm, only a low resevoir alarm. Has anyone had a failure of the injection system that caused major damage to the engine? Should I be concerned about a lube failure or would I be as well off to leave the system as is? What would be involved in disabling the injection system and going to premix fuel. Any comments especiaaly about how to go to premix would be appreciated.

Re: suzuki oil injection

Welcome to Iboats ;) .... Suzuki have one of the most reliable oil injection systems, what you can do is premix fuel about 100:1 and make a mark on the oil reservoir tank, after a tank of gas you will see if it has used oil or not, if it did it is fine .... It is pretty easy to disengage the oil pump, all you need to do is plug the pipe that comes out the reservoir and take oil pump off take out the gear that drives it and put the oil pump back together .... as easy as that ...
