I have a sailboat with a Suzuki 8hp two stroke. The engine is hard to start and I find that the plugs get fouled with alarming regularity. The engine has an oil injection system. I am using the recomended plug with the recomended gap. What can I do?

Do you have a sail prop on this engine. If not you are lugging the engine at too low an rpm which will contribute to plug fouling and overheating. If you have the correct prop then you need to check spark, compression, and mixture. An overrich fuel mixture or too much oil from the oil injection will also contribute to plug fouling. I'm betting on the prop.

A service bulletin many many many moons ago addressed the problem for 8 and 9.9 oil injected motors used in relatively cold waters (Milwaukee ?)....put the optional hotter thermostat in it available from your friendly Suzuki dealer..problem goes away.
