Suzuki Super V6 150 Start problems

We have a 150 from around 1987 or 1988. This motor will run fine once is has started. But we are having great dificulty getting it to start. A mechanic replaced the choke switch on the throttle but that did not solve problem. I have been able to start the engine by manual choke. Simply opening the screw on top of engine, closing back and and then trying to start. Many times that will work. Is there another area I need to be looking at? Is there some kind of electric choke pump that may be bad? Thank you for the help!

I have a 1986 suzuki 150, when its cold it is very tough to start.A friend of mine at a dealership said that this is a problem with these motors.Try spraying starting fluid into the intake.there is no electric choke,just a manual drip system that doesnt work very well.

Thanks for the info! We believe we fixed the problem by replacing the Stator. Even with brand new batteries, the engine was'nt getting the proper amps to start. You may want to try this to help your problem.

The solinoid in the fuel enrichment valve (the thing the screw you're talking about goes into) go bad and they don't dump in the fuel as they should. Its easy to tell if they are working or not. Just take the cover off and get back there and listen as someone turns on and pushes in and releases the key. You can hear a slight clicking from one if its working - and yours isn't - of course check for a disconnected wire (you have to remove the oil tank to get to it but that's no big deal). A replacement cost about $125 unless you can find one on E-Bay.<br /><br />Thom
