I am looking into buying a new 150 4-stroke Suzuki. Originally I was going to buy a Yamaha 150 4-stroke. Any good or bad experiences with either? Your recommendations are appreciated.

I hear the Suzuki's are a fine engine with solid engineering. I believe the cams are chain driven, though belts don't particularly concern me - They've proven reliable and durable. The Yamaha's have earned an excellent reputation and I've only heard good things about the Suzukis as well.

Choosing which brand has come down to local dealers and customer service.

Which brands are sold near you. Visit the dealers and talk to the service and parts department staff.

I have a dealer for every brand but my Yamaha/Mercury dealer outshines the others for service, parts and support.

Am I correct that the Suzi "Big Block" DF150 is 4 cylinders and the Yamaha F150 is a V6?

That must make the Suzi a lot lighter.

I think that would lean me toward the Suzi.

Usually Suzuki also has a 6 year warranty deal going on to help sell motors. I wouldn't hesitate for a second on buying a Suzuki if you have a dealer near by, great engines.

I agree with the other poster regarding supports and parts. My local boat yard is excellent with Yamaha service and parts - but won't work on Suzi. Every time that I needed Suzi service, i needed to pull the boat and trailer to the only Suzi guy in my area. Spent a good part of the summer with no boat.

Both engines are good, the Yamaha has been in service now for quite a few years so it has a track record. It is a big torque monster for a 150hp engine because it has 2600+cc of displacement. There have been issues with the driven balencer gear which is made from a fiber material. It has been changed by Yamaha to improve its life but I believe its an issue that has not been fully resolved. I live in Ontario Canada and Suzuki dealers are hard to find, especially good one's. Yamaha have schools that regularily update the techs. I would go Yamaha because I know MANY people that have had an extremely long service life with them. Suzuki makes excellent products but w/o service nothing is really good.

Yea, check to be sure you have someone that will work on the Suzuki. Nearest place for me is 1.5 hour drive, versus Yamaha 5 minutes away.
