Swap VP XDP drive to a DP drive ?

Which DP drive and transom assembly would be a direct swap for a 2003 XDP composite drive.

I was told if i use a DP-S drive and transom assembly i would have to do some transom glass work, i want to avoid this.

has anybody changed out their XDP drive.

The transom cutout is the same for XDP as the SX and DP-S.

Interesting ! the techs at marine parts express say i have to fabricate an adapter plate and do some glasswork to fit a DP-S and transom plate to an XDP set up.

Don, Have you done the swap because i have feeling the guys at marineparts express have not and are just theorizing..would like definitive answer from someone who has done it before i spend $10,000.

No, I haven't changed one. But the cutout template and drilling fixture for the cutout is the same for both drives, according to a Volvo installation manual I have. So I just assumed they were the same cutout.

Mine were swapped out, the transom plates bolted up no glass work was needed from my marina.

Which exact drive did you swap to and did you have to get some harness adapters to fit to trim pump etc. Also what was done with the raw water pump on crank shaft (XDP does not have built in water pump..does the DP-S ?)

No Volvo drive has a raw water pump in it. Volvo still uses a crank shaft mounted pump and they have been basically the same since around 2000. The harness connections are the same round 10 pin.
The engines are basically the same for either drive. Just some changes for the different drives and accessories.

Ok thanks Don. Am in touch with Volvo USA they will give me a list of what is needed to change out drive. i will post that on forum for benefit of others
