swapping upper gear housing 4.3

i purchased a used upper gear housing to swap onto my 1986 4.3 omc. I received the new (used) one today. I noticed that they are a little different. It looks like the one i bought is newer. It does not have that little tongue (lack of better word) on the front on the housing like in this pic. AM I SCREWED?!!!

looks like the anode is not compatible. is there some modification that anybody knows of? thanks

maybe a anode off a 1987 or earlier would work? just thinking out loud

nevermind. figured it out. looks like I can buy a anode from a 1987-93 and it will fit like a glove. thanks anyway

Um, Why are you replacing your upper housing?

I toasted my upper gears. It was cheaper to buy a complete used upper unit than anything else.

Ayuh,.... I'd guess alota that grounded up metal is now in the Lower unit, due to gravity,...

Yeah....You BETTER disassemble your lower and completely inspect, flush and reassemble with new seals or you'll be replacing the entire drive in the not too distant future.........
