I just picked up this little beauty for free. The motor is amazingly clean both inside and out. Fella says the coils are cracked. Can I put them in the oven for a couple hours and varnish the heck out of them?

Nothing like a FREE motor! congrats!
The coils in the oven thing is a new one for me. I doubt it would work, but as said, you can get RELIABLE ones cheap. You will almost positively need an impeller and coils and carb kit so bite the bullet and git 'er done.
We all know free motors are hardly ever really "free".;)

P.S. ......new motor and no pics? Hmmmmm..:)

You can. After you do that, you can buy a pair of new coils and get your little tiddler running perfectly again. Or, you could just buy the new coils and save the time you'd spend baking the bad ones.

So, you spend about $40 and get a nice 6hp Evinrude to play with. Seems like a bargain to me. Running ones sell here in Minnesota for about $350. Quite the bargain.

I didn't know coils were that cheap and available. For the price, I'll change them both. The fella I got this from was bugged by His wife to clean up the basement and I was at the right time/ right place. Also an impeller is on the list. Form iboats store of course. Can't wait.

Change the water pump impeller while you are at it. Otherwise you may waste all that work.

All the parts you need are available here at iboats. See the "Boat Parts and Accessories" at the top left of the page.
