Hi, just wondering if anyone knows much about this model? sweetwater 2423 EL 2003

I know pontoons in US seem to be way cheaper but we are still paying a premium price here in Australia for some reason.

anyhow i was thinking of purchasing this pontoon after i have it surveyed and test drive http://www.boating4u.com.au/Pontoon_Boat_Sweetwater.htm

and a video i took today of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5PxxoFXlnY

its apparently a good price but its something thats really hard to research here to compare.

being 7 years old i thought they may have been cheaper as i can buy a new voyager pontoon without motor for 28K.

any insights or advice?

thanks

I think all I can safely comment on is that it looks like a really nice toon. From this side of the pond....that price seems WAY WAY WAY WAY high. Especially with only a 90. Seems like you should be getting a tri-toon with a 150+ on it for that money.

Razgo,

I own a Sweetwater 2186-re and while it is a good boat I wouldn't buy another one. The Aluminum all around the boat is to thin & flimsy. It will dent to easy.
Buy a Pontoon that has more rails going around it for better rigity.
I paid $14,000 for my 2006 model with a 60hp 4 stroke Yamaha, you would be paying way to much for this boat.
My boat had 30hr's on it and was in new cond. last year when I bought it. I hope my post helps you.

The Sweetwater is built by Godfrey Marine in Indiana. The Sweetwater is considered by many to be an entry level pontoon boat.

Thanks for the info and comments.

I did consider importing from US but haven't gone down that path yet.

The second hand market here functions very differently to US for some reason. here they try and get near new prices or only go down to 50% of original price after 5-10 years.

Here i am told its a good price for a 23'.

I was looking at another one sweetwater "Parti-Craft" this one here http://www.boatsonline.com.au/boats-for-sale/used/power-boats.php?de=63656

I met the person who did buy it who had a suntracker previously and said it was a bargain.

But this is hard i know for people in the US to get their head around why we pay so much. And I would agree!

and for clarification this is AUD$ which i think is approx 90 cents in the dollar to US at the moment.

now here is another parti craft which is made by sweetwater? 2006 $35K http://www.boatsales.com.au/boats-for-sale/boatdetails.aspx?R=7140831

but its hard to find forums or others here to discuss prices and what exactly is value here as pontoons seem to be still fairly new here compared to the US. They are popular here and getting more popular every year so maybe prices will come down in years to come.

I spoke to company here that imports Voyager pontoons. He said for a 6m new without motor i am looking at $28K

Oh and i was told the owner of the pontoon i am looking at paid $70K for it.

Hi, yep been to all the US sites i could find and have noted the price differences. Although i have seen some expensive pontoons as well. so there must be some variable differences depending on layout and features.

the exact layout i want is 3 gate forward, port, starboard, header/holding tank and gateway entrance must be at least 27 inches wide (wifes wheelchair).

thats the only reason i have been looking at this sweetwater model as it has everything exactly as i would need.

i found another one identical but maybe much better cared for and does have a 115HP http://www.tradingpost.com.au/Marin...Number=TP003053419?BackToResult=true&AdOnTop=
