How can I measure the angle of the transom for L brackets and make my platform level?
Should the trailer be level?
Should the boat be level?

I know were the water line is but how can you determine how to make it level when trailered?

I have put a level on it but if the boat sits in the water at a different angle than it sits on the trailer , how do you do this?

Thanks guys

Re: swim platform brackets

If you can find any dirty water where you boat, let it sit for a couple of hours in the "muck" and when you haul it out, there should be a scum line at the water line. Maintain that angle from the hull, and you should be right where you want to be. Then clean off the scum line... :)

When do you want it "Level"? I presume, when it's in the water. Problem is with different weight distributions the boat will always have different "Levels". But... to answer your question next time your in the lake your gunna have to mark a "Level" line on the hull when she's in calm water if you want an accurate assessment of how to make your platform level off the transom. At least That's my thinkin on the subject. But as EVERYONE on here KNOWS... I AM just a "DUMB OKIE":p

Do you want your platform level or perpendicular(90 degrees) to the transom of the boat?
If you look close to the back you can see my platform isn't quite parallel to the water, the weight of the gas tank and motor make it sit back a bit.

The curve in my transom is way to steep to let it set at the 90.
It will be around, 110 is what I'm thinking.

Nice boat!!

Re: swim platform brackets

mine isn't quite 90 degrees either, but the boat doesn't sit level in the water so the swim step is on the same plane as the boat. When someone actually steps on mine it goes under water. Since you have an I/O you will want it high enough so that when the outdrive is up it won't hit the swim platform unless you get the style that is hinged and rises with the outdrive.

Re: swim platform brackets

Its actually very simple to level out your swim platform level to the water when the boat is in use.

First thing you do is eyeball it.. bolt it down and go into the water ..

Not what you want .. its ok.. unbolt it .. fill the screw holes with some PB .. do your regular gel patching buffing etc.
Then you Kinda eyeball it again this time a little lower or higher depending. Bolt it up again..

To fine tune it you might have to do these steps 4 or 5 times .. so make sure you have plenty of putty and gelcoat to repair your Test spots :D ....... .. ..

Did I get YA !! .. oh common .. I got ya didnt I :D ..

Ok.. now for the Real way I would do it..

1. load your boat the way you normally do.
2. get 2 straight 1x1s or whatever scrap thin strips of wood you have handy. ( one strip mebbe 12" for the transom and the other strip representing the swim platform..18" ? )
3. at one End put a carriage bolt through Both strips of wood with a thumb screw or nut to tighten it up.
4. put your boat in the water when its completely flat water ( in the ramp would do )
5. Place your make shift "Compass" on the transom and duct tape it secure ( at the level you want your Platform to be ).
6. move your second arm of the compass to be were you want it in relation to the water..then Tighten your wingnut or bolt and nut. Mark your transom with something to keep the placement of the Bottom of your SP ..

There is your custom angle to the transom ( dont disturb your jig now .. ) . secure more if needed .

I would not go side to side angles..just keep the side to side the same level across the transom.

YD.
