I'm installing a swim platform on my 95 32' Baja Caliber. Can anyone tell me how long of bolts I should buy that go through the transom?

Re: Swim platform

You wont know until you drill the holes. If it were me, I'd pickup 1.5", 2" and 2.5" and maybe even 3" long bolts so I'd be sure to have the right sizes. I'd also be sure to buy either nylon lock nuts or lock washers in addition to either making a backing plate or using large fender washers to spread the load on the inside of the transom....

Ralph is right, you won't really know until you drill the holes.

If memory serves... I used 5 - 3" bolts, washers, lock washers, fender washers and nuts when I installed the swim platform on my 2004 Bayliner 205. All hardware was stainless steel. Don't forget to seal up the holes with 4200/5200.

(Sorry don't mean to hijack the thread)

Ratt, Where did you get that swim platform for your bayliner. Does it extend off your integral one? Is there such a thing for a Bayliner 175? How much did it cost (if you don't mind). I saw a couple of Bayliners with the extended swim platforms at the boat show last winter, but not on the 175. I'd like to get one if them make em. Thanks

Re: Swim platform

Surffx,

I ordered the platform from my Bayliner dealer. He cut me a break; $600 for the platform and mounting hardware. It was offered as an option when new but I did not get it when I purchased the boat. Anyway, the platform drops a few inches and extends off of the molded in platform. It has worked out perfectly. I have not seen one for the 175 offered from Bayliner. Try Swim Platforms. This discussion addresses cost.

Good luck and happy boating!

Re: Swim platform

Make sure you mount the platform at the water line and not a foot above it as some dumb manufacturers do, and put 3m 5200 or at least silicone seal under all the points outside the hull where the platform contacts the transom.
