I need a about a foot in order to close my garage, and someone has suggested I add a Fulton fold away hinge to my tongue. If I do the modification in the traditional place, I don't think that would give me what I need due to the placement of the trailer brake booster. Question: What if I place it before the bow stop? I don't believe it provides a lot of support for the boat, and it would be the cleanest place to put the pivot. Does anyone see any problems with this? I would be using the weld on type.

Re: Swing tongue modification

I just installed the Fulton swing-away on my trailer. Seems durable/strong but I haven't towed with it yet. Actually leaving in about 6 hours for a little late fall chi-town fishing....hoping no issues. No expecting any based on the setup. However, in reading the installation instructions, it specifically states that the hinge should be mounted PRIOR to any additional accessories.....winch stand, bow roller, jack, etc. Unless I am mis-understanding your suggestion, you would be going against this rule. Granted, I did NOT weld, just used the 16 1/2" Torx bolts provided with the product which seem very solid. Hope this helps answer your question.

Best of luck!
