Have a Mercury 80 hp, 4-cylinder, 1972 with the famous thunderbolt ignition system which includes the "dead" switch box and the distributor which feeds same. Being poor, I
wish to "duplicate" the box if possible. Anyone out there who even has an inkling what's in the swith box and/or distributor? If I can find out, I'll be delighted to share any progress
I make. My background as a retired electrical engineer should stand me in good stead here...
What say ye? (I do have the Page 3G-9 of the manual but it just shows pictures, no actual wiring of individual items.) Jim Reed.

Re: Switch box going going gone...

Too bad 'Schematic' is not around. He is a great electronics man online here, but has been AWOL for about a month now. I remember him going into a switchbox and repairing it,and then, pouring it again. I'll go see if I can search it out..It can and has been done. From what I remember tho, he found the actual printed circuit path top corode open more than component failure.

Thank you 12 footer, I needed someone who has been with this group to respond. Schematic would have been just the type person I've been looking for. Please find his response and let me know. If you know anyone else who has had this problem, let me know and when-if I'm able to solve it, I would be delighted to share with the group here. Thanks again... Jim Reed
