Re: switch for tilt/trim

I don't think it would be hard to do at all. I'm no electrician, however here's what I would do.

Trace the wires back to the connections near the transon (probally at or near the relays) and than add a second wire to each of the connections and run to your new switch. The end result should would.

The other solution is to do same thing, but from the original switch, however you would have to make the connections just before the switches, and that would leave you with spices in a hard to reach area. Also thats gonna take more wire and time.

I know I can't explain it as simple as it is, I'm sure one of the experts will chime in and get you on the right path.

I'm defintiely NOT that expert, but I was going to say that I have a 1990 100HP that has a second set of controls on the startboard side of the motor itself. So not only is it possible but probably rather easy. I don't have a wiring diagram but if you do a search you probably can come up with one and since they're of the same brand and 2 yrs apart it's probably similar. Mine is a 1990 100HP Johnson GT100, and the model is J100STLES. There are exploded parts diagrams on shop.evinrude.com which can probably lead you in the right direction.

Also I want to say that this is the first outboard I've owned with those controls and I don't know how I got along without them. REALLY handy, esp for loading and unloading, service, etc.

Good luck.

Brian.

Here are a couple sources for the transom mounted PTT switches.

http://www.panthermarineproducts.com/pmarine/pmarine_limage.php?sku=551200

or

You will need a schematic dwg of your trim system to figure out how to connect them into the existing circuit. There will generally be three wires. One supply voltage (red), one for UP (blue) and one for DOWN (green).

Ask around the Johnson/Evinrude forums for a link to a schematic dwg.

Yep, easy. Just find a good wiring diagram so you know where you are and purchase a switch. Between the wiring diagrams and the directions that come with the switch it should be easy. My boat has the normal one on the control, one on the motor, and one up in the bow.
