Switching sterndrive

I have 1968 Evinrude Sportsman 120 boat. I'm trying
to fine a sterndrive for it. The boat as a GM il4 motor in it
Can I switch the hole outdrive with a newer one or a Mercuiser and if so what schoud I look for

With the set up you have you will have to remove everything, engine and drive +. Then you'll have to have the hole in the transom filled. Once this has been done you can install any type of drive system you want. Probably best to go with Mercruiser as parts are a little cheaper and more accessable. Nothing in your boat now will work with an upgraded system, guages, wiring, controls, steering, ect. The engine is probably the only thing you could reuse. May also have to replace the engine mount stringers.

Anything can be done with enough time money and patience. Would this be feesable, NO, you could replace the boat with a looooooot newer boat for probably less money.
