Swivel Bracket Frozen

I just heard that I need to replace my swivel bracket for my 1995 Mecr 150...Can anyone hear give me an Idea of how to fix this myself?<br />The shop wants $1000-$1500 depending on if they use new or used parts...Does this sound fair??<br /><br />Please advise!<br /><br />-Paul

Not fair, OR-18.<br /><br />Replacing it is a tough job, takes a lot of hours and parts are not cheap. Still, a grand is too much.<br /><br />I would look into freeing and lubing it myself before I took it to a "replace everything" shop.<br /><br />Good luck.

Just an indication, i had the swivel bracket on my 15hp broken and rewelded it myself, as a new one was going to set me back about AU$350. If you look around there are a number of different solutions you could soak it in to try and loosen some of the corrosion, then maybe even use a hydraulic press to remove it.<br />Andrew

hello<br /> there are several places that will sell you a complete mid section for 650 dollars. are you sure its the swivel bushings that have frozen?<br /> the old inline mercs would do that. sometimes we could free them up by heating them with oxy/acetylene until the bushings freed up. it is odd to see that on an 8 year old motor but I guess I have seen stranger. when you get it fixed you may want to increase the maint cycle and use the grease more liberally.<br /> good luck and keep posting
