The 1972 25hp Evinrude doesn't have a tilt lock or shallow water drive but the 1976 35hp appears to. (Johnson Evinrude swivel and transom bracket 319700 1976-1977 25 35)
Would a swap out be possible or is there a more compatible model? I really don't like not having a tilt lock, and the shallow water drive is nice, my 6hp seahorse has it and it helps around the coastal waters of Texas.

I do not believe they interchange those are completely different motors.

Might be able to come up with a block of wood of the appropriate size and shape that you could keep in the boat. I had one that I kept on the end of a chain that was attached to the transom for beaching on our rocky islands. It was essentially a stick that would keep the motor tilted all the way up. Might be able to come up with something that worked for that and shallow running if you put your mind to it, for a lot less effort than changing stuff out.

^^^I do that all the time if trailering larger motors in a tilt position. Low tech and safe. For shallow water running, might carry an extra tilt pin to use when needed.

Very true about easier, good ideas. Thank you. I don't get why they didn't add one, even my 67 mercury 39 has a tilt lock.

You could sell your motor, and get the motor and tilt, and get exactly what you want.

no way. its one of the lightest 25hp I have found and was $160. I can deal with the stick tilt. it literally stands my 11' inflatable on its tail! A higher pitch prop would be a nice find tho., like a pin drive 9x16 but I don't think there is such a thing.
