SX 255 ticking

2000 SX225 makes a ticking sound when warm over 3000rpm or hard accell. sound appears to be coming from lower unit?? changed gear oil didn't find any metal on the drain plug. pulled spark plugs, all clean... checked compression all between 105 -110.

I don't notice this sound until the engine is warm.

are you sure it's coming from the lower unit?

I was thinking it could be the O2 sensor draw tube rattling... just a guess though.
does it only happen in gear?
more details will help.
how long has it been happening?

Thanks for the info!
This motor is new to me so I have no idea how long it has been happening. There is no noise at idle and I only notice the noise after the engine has warmed up. Most apparent during hard accel out of the hole or above 4000 rpm.

where is the oxegen sensor on this motor. Is the ticking due to an exhaust leak at the oxegen sensor?

the O2 sensor is located off of cyl #1. I strongly suggest you get a Yamaha OEM manual for this motor if you're gonna be a do-it-yourself'er.
