SX drive wont go up or down

I have a 2002 Larson with a 5.0Gl engine with Sx Drive. I put it in the water yesterday and the drive would not go up or down. It just made a clicking noice at the pump area. So i took a wrench and hit the side of the pump motor a couple times and it worked. But extremely slow. then a couple minutes later it just clicked again. so to make it work i have to hit it while i have someone else hold the trim button up or down. So is it the Pump Bad?

So is it the Pump Bad?

The pump may be working, but the electric motor running that pump is bad if it only works while you are beating on it.

So i guess the next thing for me to do is take off the electric motor off the pump and get a new one?
