Sx-m drive to cobra drive?

Well my boats sx drive is cracked on the gearbox upper unit and it's locked so I had to removed it..... I can either one buy a refurbished upper unit from eBay for 3 grand or this whole 1996 cobra sx drive from a guy for 600 dollars.... My question is this though can the cobra hook right up to the back of my sx transom plate and so on.

Or do y'all know anywhere where I can just buy the upper unit for a decent price so I can be back on the waters

I believe that a OMC 1996 "SX" outdrive is the same as the VP "SX" outdrive as that was several years into the joint venture between the two. If it says "SX" on the side of the drive I'd bet you are safe.
However, what year is your current outdrive?
Has the Cobra drive been pressure tested?
$600 is a cheap price - I sold a used one for $1,250 not too long ago.

Well his brother bought a rotted out boat just because he wanted the engine in it and gave the drive to him to help pull the engine out.
They said they ran it and it ran fine, other than wasp nest being in accessible points it looked alright, fluid was good, drive shaft was able to turn by hand ok

He said the boat was a 2000 they got it off

It says cobra sx on the side. Albeit it looks larger and beefed than my sx-m 1.43 ratio boat.

My drive is a Volvo sx-m 1.43 off of a 2001 Larson 234 escape with the 5.7l Volvo penta gsi PEFS engine

The boat mechanic who currently has my boat only saw pictures but he seems to think you'd have to use the Cobras transom assembly because it won't work with my current one..... So that wouldn't make it worth the money due to it being a lot of labor of removing the engine and swapping everything around and making sure it's tight.
