SX-M Steering Pivot Seal Leak

Long time reader, first time poster. I noticed a slight leak coming from what I though was the gimbal housing cover seal (maybe a drop every few seconds). I did put a new o-ring in and put some extra silicone along with that and sealed it up. This did not work, and I am convinced the leak (after reading a thread from 2012 on here) has me convinced it is the o-ring in the pivot assembly from underneath. Assuming it was the gimbal housing cover, I never checked to see if the steering arm was torqued tight enough. I am wondering if pulling the boat (slipped) and torquing the steering arm bolt would help compress the lower o-ring. The thrust washer seems a bit loose under the steering arm so I'm thinking it is a little loose. Any advise here from a seasoned expert or someone that has experience with this. Just wondering if there is a chance this may work, otherwise, I will have to schedule the repair at the shop. Thanks for any help!

Welcome aboard Duckfoot!
My experience with this issue is a 2002 SX-MHP. Had the same "drip" leak you are experiencing. I had the upper bearing replaced, replaced the o-ring, then paid particular attention to the "pre-loading" of the steering horn by use of the shims between bottom of steering horn and pivot. And of course made sure the bolt was properly torqued.
Sounds like your issue could be from any of these issues as you mention the thrust washer is loose to the touch. That definitely should not be the case. I would start there, then if you perform your own work like I do my recommendation would be to dis-assemble and re-assemble as per the manual with the proper pre-loading as I feel that was the root of my issue.
Good Luck!
