Sylvan 17' Runabout Not Taking Gas/Fuel Vent?

Hey everyone!

I've battling this issue for quite sometime - I have a 1996 Sylvan Runabout, 3.0 Merc Alpha 1 Outdrive. I've been having trouble filling up with gas. Sometimes will take gas to the tank perfectly, other times it will only take one gallon before puking up the rest. I'm assuming this is a vent issue or vapor lock.

Does anyone have any possible solutions?

There will be a vent probably near the fill opening.
Check to see if it's plugged.
