Re: Synthetic Vdrive trans 1990 st Tropez
Howdy,
Welcome Aboard!
You likely wouldn't notice any difference at all. Borg Warner (or whatever the company is now!) specs most of the V-drives as needing Allison C-3 or CAT TO-2 etc fluid. there's many that fit that bill including synthetics.
If you have a manual, you should carefully read it for service instructions.
I wouldn't deviate from the manual in selecting the correct oil and while synthetic might be just fine, it may be unnecessary and in the extreme, might foam more than other types of oil.....
From the manual: (and it's an old manual)
(Now they suggest CAT TO-4 and AllisonC-4 or equivalent)
Cheers,
Rick
Hello everyone just bought a 1990 Wellcraft st tropez. I want to change out all the fluids including the trans oil.Boa has V Drives. Would it be a good idea to use synthetic DEXII? Help prolong the life of the trans etc boat has 364 hours..
