i have a yamaha 9.9 1996 high thrust long shaft kicker.(t9.9ELUH) i was out fishing and ran it out of gas right at the boat launch. it has always ran great. when i got home to flush it, it would not start. it has no spark.
i checked the kill swith lanyard-seems to be ok. i pulled the flywheel of and the stator has one set of windings burned.
i guess i need a stator. what im wondering is about the cdi. i asked a local shop and they told me, if i could borrow a stator to try from a friend a bad cdi will not harm the borrowed stator.(i belive diferently) i also dont want to buy a stator to be burned up again. they also told me that the cdi cannot be tested. i have since seen steps to test it but id need a DVA adaptor.(of wich i dont own).
anyone care to spill me some more info would be greatly appreciated. also of a good place for electronics to purchase.
any links to testing procedures would help too.
ps: was the running out of gas just pure coincidence?
also does the motor always need to be hooked up to a battery or could i use it with the pull start-could this hurt electronics?
thanks for any responses.
