My boat was pulling to port while at high speed so I suspected tab was in need of adjustment. I found another thread on iboats forum that explained tab adjustment, but I was still foggy as to what that meant, so I'm posting this in case anyone else ran into the same thing:

Mine pulls on plane until it’s trimmed properly. Once trimmed, I can walk away from the helm.

My tab is missing. Does not having it affect the performance of the boat besides having it pull one way?

The tab just affects pulling of the boat. Of course, if it is made of zinc it is also an anode to help protect the motor's metal from galvanic corrosion.

Most outboard boats pull to starboard due to negative trim & engine rotation, pulling to port may simply be too much positive trim.
Pulling & leaning are different animals to be addressed in different ways.
Leaning is the reaction from prop rotation.
3-5 degree attitude at neutral trim is a good place to start according to Mercury.
Some OMCs have a water pickup in the tab for prop hub cooling (so I'm told).
Then there's prop walk or paddle wheeling.
Oh, and don't forget the initial weight distribution.

The whole thing is a nasty can of worms and pin pointing a problem is like herding cats.
