Re: Tac not working
Well, first, search this site for the answers to your question. There are many many posts on this exact same issue.
Secondly, I iwll list a few key points for you.
1. Gray wire under powerpack runs up to tach thru harness. Make sure it is not electrically open or shorted. Check all connectors for corrosion, etc.
2. Stator is the beginning of this system. It is basically an AC alternator, capable of outputting 35 amps. You can disconnect the yellow and yellow/gray wires (plugged under the powerpack) and test the voltage of the stator when idling. Should be about 30 v AC. You can test the stator by checking resistance between the two yellows, should be about 1.5 ohms.
Neither yellow should have any resistance to engine ground. They should be open to GND.
3. Once you have the stator eliminated, reg/rect is next suspect. No real good way to test that. It is a water cooled unit mounted in the block under the powerpack.

We did a real trick on that one...debugging, testing...I had the guy wire up a house lamp to the two yellow wires coming from the stator. It lit up a 100 watt light bulb very dimly, but it lit it up. I was convinced at that point that the stator was good, and he replaced the reg/rect., fixing the whole issue.
Good luck!!
