My tach has started to read on the high side. Where it use to read 5500 RPM's, it now read about 6500 RPM's..
It started doing it just ever so often and would only stay there for several seconds and then return to normal.. Now it read high all the time.
At idle it use to be 700 RPM's and now it reads 1200 RPM's. The engine hasn't changed, just the tach..
The engine is a 2002 40 HP 4 stroke elect start with 190 hours on it. I think that it has a convertor module under the dash that. I'm not sure what that really does. I think that the meters may be made by Teleflex and came with the boat from Polar Kraft.
I'm not sure if the problem is in the signal being sent to the dash, the convertor module or the tach itself.
Any suggestions on how to check this out. Any idea on how the module actually works. I have plenty of test gear to use.
