Tach for 50hp

I want to install a tach on a 89 Quantum Bass Boat with a 89 50hp Force.
What does everyone recommend. Do I have to run the green wire all the way to the motor?

My wireing diagram shows a Gray or Purple wire from the a/c side if the rectifier, to the terminal strip on the port side of the powerhead. Then in the wiring loom to the accessory terminal strip under the dashboard. That strip has a Red/Blue wire which is battery positive from the ignition switch. In addition, the wires for the overtemp alarm are on that strip. I think your tach can be connected to that strip!

For another option, search for "Tiny Tach" on this forum. it was easy to install and works great on my boat. Just make sure you get the right model for your motor.
