Tach gos to 4500 then bounces back to to

I have a 1991 200 johnson my tach works fine until it gets to 4500 rpms then it starts to dance and shoots back to Zero but the motor is still running great i already changed tach and still does the same thing thanks

On the Teleflex web site they suggest that if on some Johnson motors the tach goes to 4000 rpm and then falls to 0 they suggest putting a 2000 ohm 1/2 watt resistor between the 'Send' and 'Gnd' terminals of the tach

thanks guys has this happend to you or anyone you know ? i was wondering i went to the teleflex web sight and could not find it my tach does not say send on the back but it has pul - gnd - +12v and up on top it has another post that says nothing . thanks for all your help anthony NY

what color wires are connected to each terminal ?
