Does anyone know how to find out how many poles my engine has so I can set the dial on back of tach I have a 77 70 hp Johnson model no. 70el77s thanks

The tachometer operates off of a six (6) pulse (your system) alternating system (forget about the poles). Set the tachometer dial to number six (6).

That's why I was asking my tach has settings dial so my motor has a 6 pulse for alternater my dial says set it to 2 for 6 poles thanks
