I own a 1986 20 hp Evinrude outboard tiller control.....model # CE20TECDC....serial # C7210728. Can I install a tachometer on this engine?
I am having a timing issue, and this way I can get an exact rpm reading.
I can't get the motor into a tank to test it a WOT.
On the water is my only WOT option and having a tach would make it easier to hopefully diagnose and fix the issue.

Re: Tach install

if you have a manual for you motor and know your timing settings , then just back the motor and boat into the water , make sure it's firmly strapped down on the trailer and go to WOT. Use a timing light and you can check if the timing is correct. Or else do a search here for Joe reeves method, it works great.

Don't quite know why you need to know your rpm's for timing but If you need a tach I'd recommend looking into buying a tiny tach , they are small and very easy to install.
