I had the same thing happen this year... I just knew that my motor was not turning that fast!

I removed and cleaned all my connections (at the coil and on the back of the tach) and that helped but, from time to time it still happens briefly.

I think my tach is slowly passing away.

I have never owned a "new" boat, but EVERY boat that I have ever been on (including the two that I have owned) ALL have the tacs jump like that. I have twins now, and my starboard tac does it more than the port. I usually go by my port side and use my engine sync to adjust the other.

Also, I usually "tap" the tac, and it will go back down to actaul reading.

I'm not sure what causes this, or why it seems to happen to boats more than anything.
