I pruchaced a 1996 Sunbird tha had been sitting or about a year or so. The boat in good condition except for the gauges. Most of the gauges were not working and were kinda fogged and beat up. I bought all new gauges and all work except the tach (which was not noting on the old gauge). I tried running a new wire right off the terminal strip but it still does not work. I checked the voltage recitifier according to a test I read and all checked out except the following. With the rectifier disconnected and the black lead on the rectifier housing and the red on the yellow/gray wire and vice versa I have continity flow both ways on the yellow/gray wire (which is jumped to just a gray wire on the terminal strip. It appears its shorted to ground. From the test I read I should only get a reading one way and open the other. Is this correct? Is the rectifier bad? Am I even testing it correctly? Could use a little help, Thanks

Check the charging with engine running and not running.
Fully charged battery, engine not running should be max 12.8Volts.
Start engine, let run about 10 Min at 3000RPM and it should read around 14+Volts.

Your rectifier is done. It should read high one way low the other.
