Tach not working...Where to start?

I know nothing about tachs except mine is not working.Do these run on fuses and what could go wrong.Troubleshoot list would be great for someone as dumb as I am!

It would help to know what motor you have the tach hooked to.j

Test the rectifier if it's got one, do a search for joe reeves test.

Hard to help with knowing what motor it is.

Sorry guys its a 2000 175 Johnson motor.

You should have a System Check tach with the 4 warning lights. Check the switch on the back to be sure that it is in the 6 position and not 5.
