tach on 1972, 65h.p.

Can someone tell me if the merc control unit for a 1972 65h.p engine is set up to run a tach off it, or does a pick up need to be set up on the engine, or do all engines have this pick up installed as a factory component?

Yes, it should be rigged with a three-prong plug in the control to wire-up a tach.

Does the tach need two wires or three? And I assume you can't just buy any old tach right?
