The motor is a 1998 Mecury The tach works at sporaticly at different rpms of the engine, never the same, the voltage output on the battery charge gauge reads 12v at idle then up to 18v when running at average speed I have to estimate at about 4300 rpm. are these two related and what may be the cause? the motor appears to be running fine.
Thank you for your help

the regulator is located behind the plate that has the coils for each cylinder isn't it? on the motor if this is it, it only has one. would you only replace that or would you replace the stator as well?
Thanks for your help

Keep in mind that your engine needs atleast an 850 cca battery. If this is not installed you will have all kinds of electrical problems.

TMD
