Tach Problems

I have a 1995 Evinrude Intruder 175hp that the rectifier burned up on. I have tested the stator and power pack, and all tests good. I was wondering if there was any way that a tach could cause the rectifier to go bad? Also what color wire coming off of the rectifier goes back to the tach? Also what does the blue and Gray wires do on the rectifier?

Thank you,
Robert

Re: Tach Problems

If the tachometer had a dead short, it might be possible for the tach to affect the regulator/rectifier assy, but that scenario is not likely. My experience has it that the exact opposite takes place.

The "Gray" wire leading from the regulator/rectifier connects to the "Gray" wire leading from the engine wiring harness which is the wire leading to the sensor terminal of the tachometer. There should be no other wires connected at that terminal.

If the tachometer operates instantly as it should, consider the tachometer to be in perfect condition.
